COUNTRY TEAMS Congratulations to the team from North Eastern District for their win in Division 1 of the Country Teams competition. They were unbeaten in their four matches. Well done to our MPDWG team (photo above), narrowly beaten into third place by South Western, 15 1/2 games to 15. Our team played 36 holes on each of the first two days in conditions varying from calm and sunny to wet and windy, on two excellent courses at Long Island and Cranbourne. We have had two wins, a tied match on Tuesday afternoon against South Western, and we lost 4 1/12 - 2 1/2 to the very strong North Eastern team. Our team had some great wins, and played some wonderful golf. We thank them for their involvement and enthusiasm. Thank you to our non-playing captain Helen Hall, to selectors Sandy Johnson and Ronnie Ferguson, team representative Sue Semmens, and all the players and caddies. See the COUNTRY TEAMS page for photos and more details. A PROMISING JUNIOR See the JUNIORS page for news of one of our future Country Teams players, Rebecca Stephens. CONGRATULATIONS TO BEACONHILLS
The Beaconhills team with their caddies at Cape Schanck after the Final. The Interclub Final was played at Cape Schanck on Thursday August 20 between the winners of Red and Green Divisions, Beaconhills and The National. The match was squared, with 2 1/2 wins each, so the Pennant winner on games won during the whole season was Beaconhills. See the INTERCLUB page for details and more photos.
RWH 4BBB DISTRICT FINAL
The District Final of the WGV Royal Women's Hospital 4BBB at Eagle Ridge Golf Course on Friday August 14th was won by Aliki Holland and Rosa Morris from The Dunes, with an excellent 45 points. Runners-up were Jenny Jeffreys and Marg Fletcher (38 points) from Portsea, and Pam Harford and Sheree Wetton from Safety Beach were third, on a countback from Karen Taylor and Jayne Northwood of Rosebud, both with 36 points. The trophies were very generously donated by L'Oreal cosmetics. After an early shower it was a very pleasant day, and the competitors found the Eagle Ridge course interesting and challenging. It was the first MPDWG event at Eagle Ridge for some years, and we are grateful to the staff for their hospitality and help. We look forward to visiting them again next year. The District winners and the Runners-up will go on to represent MPDWG in the State Final to be played at Metropolitan Golf Club on Friday September 18th. THE WGV ANGLESEA JUNIOR CAMP JULY 2009
Alex White (The Dunes), Miss Burtta Cheney, Tilly Poulsen (Mornington) Despite some awful weather our representatives at the Anglesea Camp performed extremely well. Winner of the A grade "Kangaroo" trophy was Tilly Poulsen, and Alex White won the Anglesea Award for the best nett score. Rebecca Stephens from The Dunes was the C grade nett winner. Miss Cheney who is the patron of the camp was Australian Champion in 1957, having been runner-up in 1937 when she must have been very much a junior herself. See the JUNIORS page for the story of Ms Cheney's quilt. See Anglesea Camp for a full report and results
