Match Report October 2010

Another year at a close time flies when you are having fun. Thanks to Val for her hard work putting things together for us. Her expertise with conditions etc. has been invaluable. Val took over the role after Ros could no longer keep going. Thanks tor Ros for her endevours and we wish Rick and her all the best.

Val will cover Pennant, Handicap Matchplay, Syllabus and Clinics in her report. All conditions of play and tournament handbook will be discussed at November Match meeting and will be available at February Delegates meeting. The Pennant Captains meeting will also take place in February. Captains will be expected to take all information back to pennant players and go through conditions of play and procedures with them. We can only put this information together you must be the ones to pass it on.

Course Rating has been slow and some courses are still waiting to be rated. It is a very involved procedure. Lou McDonald has been keeping updated. Lou is leaving the WGV to further her career. Lou started her golf career at Portsea and we will always consider her one of us.We wish her all the best for future.

Amalgamation. The response from clubs letting me know the names of nominated delegates has been slow even though reminders were sent. After meeting at WGV on Friday  I sent an email to Captains with regard to proxy vote once you have voted at club level.Proxy forms have been sent to clubs and are also on WGV website. The best proxy to use if you are not going to the meeting is Jenny Hoff Chairperson. Her vote will be Yes to amalgamation. SGM is at Southern Golf Club Tuesday 16th November 6pm.

Country Teams. Do many clubs know much about Country Teams and do they care Country Teams originated to allow country girls to play on city courses. Morning being classed as country. Discussion has risen at committee level regarding the cost of this event. Girls with handicaps 0-12 are given the option to attend practice sessions after which a squad of 10 is chosen to play in a 3 day tournament on courses in a particular area. Some girls that have been chosen in past are  affiliated with us and city clubs.Do we make a stipulation that they must play in so many Morning ton club or district events  before being eligible for squad selection.Bearing in mind one girl who played was selected for state team and plays off scratch. The players and caddies are given their accommodation and one evening at cost of district. Jean Rowe has offered to try and obtain a sponsor which would alleviate the pressure. To those who have taken time to watch any of these matches must realise how good the golf is.I personally would hate to see us not enter a team but this is your district and we want to do what is best for all. Please give it some thought, speak to people that have been involved and give us some feedback.

So that the average golfer is getting something back we did introduce clinics and will continue to do so.

The only other thing I have to say is about Juniors Barb has had so much trouble this year trying to get girls to go to camps which we subsidise. Also championships being called off was a disappointment. After meeting at WGV on Friday I mentioned this and it was suggested we make Championships State Ranking event. Girls will go anywhere to score points. Match committee will look into this.

Thats all from me Thanks to Alison, Val, Sandy, Ros and Sue all have helped me over the year. Helen
