2010 PENNANT SEASON REVIEW

The MPDWG Match Committee appreciated the end of season feedback from club and pennant captains from both the pennant review document and the discussion at the May meeting. The match committee is currently considering changes to the conditions and administration of pennant for the 2011 season.

Pennant captains meeting prior to the start of the season.

We are planning to have this meeting in February following the Delegates meeting.

Handicap or position in any order individual teams.

The “form order” condition always causes debate.  Feedback at the meeting indicated that some teams may not have competed in the ‘spirit of the competition’.  With the adoption of the USGA handicapping system and the possibility that handicaps may be only changed fortnightly or monthly and the slope system to be introduced in 2012, we feel that we should wait and see how these changes will affect the condition.  With the introduction of the slope system, pennant captains would be required to ensure that players had the correct handicap for each course that they play. We would not like to see a player disqualified for a miscalculation of a handicap or a player played in the incorrect position.

Medical Certificates

Medical certificates will continue to be the player’s responsibility and must be carried at all times.

Thursday / Friday

We will continue this concept in 2011, however we will endeavour to ensure that the last day of the pennant season is on a Thursday. The Draft Draw is issued in October each year and the final draw in February which should give all clubs enough time to advise their players when they will be playing.

Limiting of Badges Presented

We do not propose to limit the number of badges to be presented.   We are however looking at making changes to the conditions in regards to the number of times a player can play in a team. For example once a player has played a certain number of games in one  team they become ineligible to play in another team.

Some of the other changes we are currently discussing.

Number of Teams

For the 2011 season we have fewer teams entered.  This has caused a great deal of debate over quite a few weeks. Currently we are looking at an uneven season as at this stage there are 7 teams in Division 1, 8 teams in Division 2 and 6 teams in Division 3. This will be discussed further at the October Delegates meeting. We may make changes to the conditions for the 2011 season in regards to promotion and relegation.
