MORNINGTON PENINSULA DISTRICT WOMEN’S GOLF
THE HISCOCK SALVER
A Silver Salver was donated in 1968 by the Misses D and M Hiscock. At that time the District had a South zone – the founding four clubs of Flinders, Mornington, Portsea and Sorrento having been joined in 1962 by the Rosebud Country Club, and a North zone comprising the clubs which had joined the District in 1964 – Beaconhills, Emerald, Montuna and Warburton. Both Zones had been fielding an “A” Grade Pennant team, and the Hiscock Salver was played between the winners of the two Zones. Winners: 1969 Sorrento 1970 Rosebud Country Club
When the North Zone stopped fielding a separate team in 1971 the Salver was played as a match between the top two Pennant teams. The winner in 1971 was Flinders Golf Club.
Since 1972, it has become a teams’ event for the MPDWG’s affiliated clubs that had fielded a team in District Pennant in the preceding year. The four players must have been members of those teams. It is a Stableford round with all four scores to count.
In 2011 the composition of the teams was varied to allow players or caddies from Handicap matchplay teams as well as pennant teams to participate.
